What is ATP?

What is ATP? - 7E Wellness

If you've read our previous blogs, we're sure you've noticed that we give a lot of attention to Adenosine Triphosphate, or ATP. There's a reason for this, as a primary benefit of our MyoLift True Microcurrent technology increases the production of ATP. But what is it? Why does it matter? That's what we're here to unpack today.

A Brief History.

ATP was first discovered by a chemist named Karl Lohmann back in 1929. After it's discovery there was a snowball effect in its' understanding. With the combined studies and efforts of Paul D. Boyer and John E. Walker, it was further discovered that ATP had remarkable functions within our body.

What is ATP?

ATP is recognized as the "energy of life" and drives a number of biological processes like photosynthesis, muscle contractions / re-education, protein synthesis and membrane transport. In other words, cellular energy is produced by ATP and leads to overall cell function!

Why does this matter in Aesthetics?

When we're young, the process of the cell producing energy is constant and abundant. Think of a fully charged battery! But around the age of 35 things begin to change as the aging process really begins. At this point, the production of ATP in the cells begins to slow down and the cells stop performing at their full potential. The result is a reduction in our cell's ability to create collagen and elastin and the muscle cells become laxed and lose the energy to remain firm. Think of the body functioning with only a half-charged battery.

In addition to this, environmental factors such as sun damage, smoking and lifestyle begin to take a toll on our skin. That less consistent production of ATP means that our body is unable to replace damage being done, so negative effects of environment and lifestyle really begin to reflect on our body.

What role does Microcurrent play in ATP?

  • Microcurrent paired with ATP expedites healing.
  • Microcurrent ranges from 10-1000 microamps. At this range, ATP increases its' concentration in the tissues and stimulates amino acids.
  • ATP resides in the tissue until needed. In other words - it doesn't go to waste! This is why microcurrent treatments are recommended in a series for cumulative and progressive treatments.
  • The turnover rate of ATP is high, therefore the storage of ATP in the tissues is important to the healing process.
  • A 40-50% healing of scar tissue.
  • Microcurrent stimulates ATP to decrease edema and swelling and increased physical endurance in sports.
  • Microcurrent instruments deliver a direct current (DC), and so the nature of its electricity works the same.

When Microcurrent treatment are integrated into skincare, the ATP is affected to encourage the following:

  • Stimulate Dermal Collagen production and increase elasticity.
  • Tighten elastin and collagen matrix deep within the dermis layers.
  • Reduce and constrict pore size.
  • Improve moisture retention.
  • Reform facial muscles.
  • Reduce solar damage / photo damage.
  • Mimimize laxticity in the neck muscles.
  • Lift and tighten muscles surrounding the eyes and forehead.
  • Minimize wrinkles.
  • Tighten skin, reduce redness and improve skin texture.
  • Reduce puffiness and edema due to swollen lymph nodes.

 ATP gel mask by 7E

7E Wellness designed its' ATP Booster Gel Mask to help ignite ATP stimulation even further with the unique ingredient, Ergothioneine. Ergothioneine was intentionally formulated into the ATP Booster Gel Mask to maximize the anti-aging, results-oriented treatments of the microcurrent facial. You can learn all about the powerful anti-aging benefits of our ATP Booster Gel Mask by reading our blog highlighting its' purpose.

The ATP Booster Mask can be used before a microcurrent facial with the following protocols:

  1. Apply a thin layer of the ATP booster mask first
  2. Add your conductivity gel over the top of it. This will help to increase the ATP to the skin cells.

The ATP Booster Mask can be used as a finishing mask to put on after the microcurrent facial.

It can also be applied in a very thin layer before applying the eye mask and/or lip mask too!

Jacque, one of our Licensed Estheticians and Educators at 7E Wellness, uses the ATP Booster Mask first, then LED, then applies conductivity gel. She suggests that if you use the ATP Booster Mask as an "after" mask, you can put on a thin layer, then do the LED.
